The space-saving, two-wire SPE Ethernet connection solution is particularly suitable for the simple networking of smart devices such as intelligent sensors. When used in the field, however, these are often exposed to increased environmental conditions. In addition to the possibility of integrating an IP-protected connector on such field devices, there is also the option of using a cable gland to create the desired IP protection class. PCB terminal blocks that are tested and suitable for SPE data transmission can be used inside the devices. This offers many advantages: Firstly, the device manufacturer has the freedom to determine the position of the small SPE terminals to suit him on the PCB. On the other hand, the installers on site also benefit from the familiar screw or push-in connection technology.
