Ethernet connectivity for installation space-critical sensors

m8 circular connector with d-coding

Data rates of 100 Mbit/s, power of up to 30 watts and almost a third less space than M12: The D-coded M8 circular connectors from Franz Binder GmbH & Co. Elektrische Bauelemente KG ensure the space- and cost-efficient connection of sensors and actuators via Ethernet in production plants, buildings or infrastructure facilities. The M8-D connectors are used in data communication to allow controllers and master computers or sensors and actuators to communicate with each other via protocols such as Ethernet/IP or Profinet.

The D-coding is characterized by a series of protrusions and indentations on the mating face of the connector. It thus ensures a secure and reliable connection between the connectors and facilitates the assembly and disassembly of the connectors. The four-pole connectors therefore enable the network connection of actuators and sensors of particularly small sizes with data rates of up to 100 Mbit/s. In addition to data communication, the hybrid M8 connectors in D-coding take on the task of power supply (Power-over-Ethernet-Plus, PoE+) for the connected devices and can also supply power to devices that require a higher output of up to 30 watts: Four symmetrically arranged with gold-plated brass contacts can be loaded with a rated voltage of 63 volts and a rated current of 4 amps. The connectors are designed for more than 100 mating cycles and can be used in a temperature range of -40 to plus 80 degrees Celsius in a stationary state. Equipped with a screw lock, the electromechanical connection meets the requirements of protection class IP67 when mated and locked.

The M8-D connectors are available with two connection types: with screw terminal connection and shielded molded cable connectors. In addition to straight plugs and sockets, shielded angled flange versions are also available.
